Anti-drought bill by Rep. Napolitano

January 14, 2015

Rep. Grace Napolitano, D-El Monte, reintroduced the Water in the 21st Century Act Tuesday, a bill she first submitted in July 2014.

She no longer believes she stands alone.

“Now they are more willing to talk about it. Now some of my colleagues in other states are interested because it is affecting many other states,” she said during an interview shortly before her bill was reintroduced with the support of 26 fellow Democratic members, including Rep. John Garamendi whose district stretches from Chico to Davis to Fairfield. source: http://www.dailynews.com/general-news/20150114/anti-drought-bill-by-rep-napolitano-catching-a-wave-of-interest-in-congress

Hoses water wasters, sidewalk sprayers will be enforced with a $500 fine starting August 2014.

Statewide WaterRestrictions

California water regulators have instituted statewide water restrictions for the first time ever as authorities struggle to get a handle on the worst drought in decades.

The action by the State Water Resources Control Board comes after its own survey revealed that residents have actually upped their water consumption, despite conservation efforts by Governor Jerry Brown to reduce water usage by 20 percent.

The new restrictions will ban wasteful outdoor watering, such as sprinkler systems whose runoff flows on to sidewalks, hosing down streets and driveways, or washing a vehicle without a shut-off nozzle on the hose.

Violators could be fined up to $500 dollars, with multiple public employees, including local water agencies, empowered to enforce the new rules. source: http://rt.com/usa/173164-california-water-waste-drought/
